Jakarta, Indonesia, 24 March 2021 – Suntory Garuda Beverage (SGB) celebrates World Water Day (WWD) 2021 by highlighting the importance of environmental education at schools to our future generation and give all SGB employees the opportunity to make a commitment to conserving water and converting all commitments to become a donation for clean water. Under the Mizuiku program, series of activities are held to commemorate this year’s world water day to increase awareness and conservation of clean water.

Commemorating WWD 2021, SGB has distributed Mizuiku journal & activity book (to record contribution to preserve water and environment) to more than 3,300 children, throughout 18 elementary schools located in five areas in Indonesia, including in Jakarta, Tangerang, Gowa (South Sulawesi), Banjarbaru (South Kalimantan) dan Sidoarjo (East Java). Meanwhile, for the educators and related government officials, SGB has distributed Mizuiku learning kit which includes a set of posters for water conservation learning and the MizuAdventure board game.

"Mizuiku - I Love Clean Water" is a sustainable program from Suntory in Japan to promote awareness and importance of clean water to children so that they can become agents of change in the preservation of clean water. Mizuiku started in 2004 in Japan and launched in Indonesia in 2019.

And our Mizuiku program is the precious channel to deliver this understanding to our next generation, our children across Indonesia. Therefore, in addition to sending Mizuiku learning kits to children and schools, we also celebrate WWD 2021 by holding a webinar with Adiwiyata schools.”

Today, SGB held a webinar to discuss school movement plans for water conservation implementation which was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia (KLHK), the Environment Agency (DLH), the Education Office (Diknas), the Association of Indonesian Adiwiyata Activists (HPAI) and school principals, teachers, school committees as well as Adiwiyata members from 29 Mizuiku schools 2020/2021. In total, almost 100 participants joined the webinar.

One of the highlights from the webinar was the presence of Prof. Kamir R. Brata as the inventor of biopore technology who explained how biopore can be implemented in schools.

Prof. Kamir R. Brata, said, "I am very happy to know that elementary school children get an education about making biopores in this Mizuiku program. Biopore is a simple technology that is easy and affordable and can be done by everyone. A simple technology that utilizes the role of organisms in the soil (the activity of soil fauna or plant roots) to form small tunnel holes (pores) in the soil. Biopores are a practical solution for increasing water absorption into the soil, processing organic waste into compost and preventing stagnation of water and flooding.”
